Back in January 2016, Jaguar Land Rover launched the petrol variant of the entry-level XE sedan in India at a price tag of Rs. 37.25 lakh. Now, the company has launched the diesel variant of XE sedan in India at a price tag of Rs. 38.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Like petrol variant, the car comes in three variants – Pure, Prestige, and Portfolio and the bookings of the car already begun across 24 Jaguar showrooms in India at a token amount of Rs. 2 Lakh. In terms of design and cosmetics, the Jaguar XE diesel is identical to the petrol version. The Jaguar XE built on Jaguar’s lightweight aluminium Architecture derived from the aerospace industry. In terms of features, the Jaguar XE comes with 10-way electrically adjustable front seats, rain sensing wipers, panoramic sunroof, Meridian entertainment system, panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen display with InControl Infotainment system, park assist, dual-zone climate control and emergency brake assist. In addition to this, it also comes with JaguarDrive Control System that allows you to select between Normal, Eco, Dynamic modes or Rain Ice Snow modes, each subtly changing the steering and throttle mapping.
The Jaguar XE diesel is powered by 2.0-litre Ingenium turbocharged, four-cylinder diesel engine and earlier it was seen in the Jaguar XF. Globally, the engine comes in two states of tune – 160bhp and 177bhp, but in India, only powerful one is available. The engine develops 430Nm of peak torque and the engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters as standard. On the other side, the petrol version comes with a 2.0-litre engine that churns out a maximum power of 200PS and when compared with a diesel variant, you will find 20Nm less torque.
At such a price tag, the Jaguar Xe will compete with Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 series, and the Audi A4.
