August 2016 Four-Wheeler Sales Figure

Automobile sales expanded in the month of August 2016 and saw double-digit figure. It’s a good news for carmakers and the reason of this increase is that, the launch of new models, attractive schemes & dispatching vehicles ahead of festive season. Cumulatively, sales in India’s top passenger vehicle increases to 15% to 253,007 units when compared to 216,352 units a year ago. In the month of July 2016, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL) registered 12.2 percent growth in overall volume sales for August 2016 on a year-on-year basis. The domestic sales increases by 12.8 percent while the export sales increases by 10.8 percent. Renault India saw highest monthly growth to 12,972 units, thanks to the Kwid while the Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) domestic car sales rises to 15%. The Mahindra & Mahindra reported 29 percent rise while the Nissan India reported that sales increases almost two-fold to 5,918 units. The Honda Cars reported a fall while the Hyundai India domestic sales increased to 6.7 percent to 43,201 units & exports grew 17 percent to 16,506 cars.

Maruti Suzuki India

In the month of August 2016, Maruti Suzuki India collectively sold 1,32,211 units including 1,19,931 units in the domestic market & 12,280 units in exports, registering 12.2% percent growth. The Maruti Suzuki India has sold the 1,17,864 units in August 2015 including 1,06,781 units in the domestic market & 11,083 units in exports. The Maruti Ciaz, Vitara Brezza & Baleno models were the key players last month and saw a sharp increase of nearly 10% & the company sold 45,000+ units. The entry-level segment continued its downhill trend and saw a decline of 5.8% from a year earlier to 35,490 units.

The Utility vehicle segment saw an increase of over 114.5 percent at 16,806 units when compared to the sales in August 2015. The Utility Vehicle space is mainly dominated by the Vitara Brezza while the S-cross share the UV space too.

Renault India

In the month of August 2016, the Renault India registered the highest ever monthly sales of 12,972 cars which is exponentially up from 1,527 cars sold during the same time last year August 2015. The increases sales is achieved by Kwid & the new-gen Renault Duster. At this pace, the company will easily achieve the target of 5 percent market share in the Indian car market by the end of 2016. For your information ,the Renault India Pvt. Ltd. is a fully owned subsidiary of Renault S.A.S. France and has its manufacturing plant in Oragadam, Chennai.

Mahindra and Mahindra

In August 2016, Mahindra & Mahindra cumulative sale is 40,591 vehicles which is 14% more when compared to the 35,634 vehicles sold during August 2015. Sales in the Passenger Vehicles segment (which includes UVs, Cars and Vans) registered 18,246 vehicles which is 29 percent more than 14,198 vehicles sold in August 2015. The Medium & Heavy Commercial vehicles sold are 371 which saw 9% growth. The exports for August 2016 stood at 3,647 vehicles, a growth of 4% for the month and 18% cumulatively.

Commenting on the auto sales performance for August 2016, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automative), M&M Ltd. said:

“The improved spread of monsoon as well as new product launches have helped the auto industry perform positively. Coupled with this, the uncertainty surrounding diesel vehicles has been lifted by the Honourable Supreme Court giving the customer the choice to buy his preferred vehicle which will help improve sentiments going forward. At Mahindra we are happy to have garnered an overall growth of 14% and a growth of 29% in UVs during the last month and we hope that the ensuing festive season will give us a further boost”.

Honda Cars India

In the month of August 2016, Domestic sales of the Japanese auto maker in India saw 11 percent decline, the total number of vehicles sold in India are 13,941 from 15,655 vehicles sold during the same month last year. Models sold by Honda Cars India are Brio, Jazz, Amaze, City, Mobilio and CR-V. The exports grew by about 12 percent, the total number of vehicles are 664 vehicles compared to the 585 vehicles sold in August 2015. Although the cumulative sales went down by 10 percent with total sales registered are 14,605 vehicles as against the 16,240 during the same month last year.

Speaking on the company’s performance, Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. said:

“We have been continuing our sales efforts to streamline our stock levels at the dealerships and are geared up for the festive season starting from this month in some parts of the country. We are witnessing good demand for models and expect good sales on account of the favourable monsoon and the upcoming festive season.”

Tata Motors

In the month of August 2016, the home-grown auto maker Tata Motors & commercial vehicle sales (including exports) were 42,061 vehicles registering a growth of 6 percent compared to the 40,679 vehicles sold in August 2015. The domestic sales saw a growth of 3 percent with 36,466 vehicles being sold in August 2016 compared to last year. The passenger cars segment accounted for 13,022 vehicles in August 2016 when compared to 11,163 vehicles sold in August 2015, registering a growth of 16 percent. The company’s sales figures from exports are 6,595 vehicles in August 2016, which is a growth of 27 percent compared to 5,201 vehicles sold in August 2015.

Hyundai Motor India

In the month of August 2016, Hyundai Motor India registered cumulative sales of 59,707 vehicles including domestic sales of 43,201 vehicles & exports of 16,506 vehicles, registering a growth of 6.7 percent while the exports saw a rise of 17% compared to the last year. The company launched the new generation Elantra last month and hopes to ride on the festive spirit to push its sales. Hyundai India currently has ten car models across segments – Eon, i10, Grand i10, Elite i20, Active i20, Xcent, Verna, Creta, Elantra and Santa Fe.

Commenting on the August sales Rakesh Srivastava, Sr. Vice President Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said:

“Hyundai’s volume of 43,201 units continues to build on the growth momentum with the added multiplier effect with launch of All New Elantra creating a strong portfolio of Modern Premium brands to excite the customers in the upcoming festive season due to good monsoons and positive macro-economic factors.”

Toyota Kirloskar Motor

In the month of August 2016, the company sold 14,045 vehicles compared to 12,801 vehicles, registering 11.9 percent increase. The Domestic sales figure are 12,801 compared to 11,161 vehicles sold last year, registering growth by 14.69 percent. In a statement, the company said, they exported 1,244 units of Etios last month compared to 1,386 vehicles last year.

Commenting on the August sales N. Raja, Director & Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said:

“We launched the Innova Crysta petrol last month and have received a very good response from the market. Being the first in its segment, the petrol variant will further contribute to the success of the new Innova Crysta.”

Nissan India

In the month of August 2016, Nissan India sales doubled to 5,918 vehicles compared to 2,809 vehicles sold in August 2015.

Ford India

In the month of August 2016, Ford India registers cumulative sales of 26,408 vehicles compared to 21,520 vehicles sold last year. Exports also grew this month, 17,860 vehicles sold compared to 13,189 vehicles sold last year while the domestic sale remained stable as 8,548 vehicles sold compared to 8,331 vehicles last year.
In the month of August, Ford India lowered the prices for its compact sedan Ford Aspire & Figo hatchback. The orders for both vehicles have increased as the prices are decrease and also the sales of Ford Endeavour SUV started in Delhi/NCR after the ban on diesel car registration was lifted.

Commenting on the August 2016 sales figure, Anurag Mehrotra, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India, said:

“Increasing export numbers and strong domestic sales prove that the vehicles they build in India are true global products that appeal to customers in India and around the world.”

He further added:

“As part of our transition into an auto and mobility company, the investment in Zoomcar provides Ford with immediate entry into the mobility services space in India. It’s our vision to make it easier for people to move in cities using multiple modes of transportation.”
