August 2016 turned out to be one of the best month and it brings cheers in the entire automative industry. Honda Motorcycle and Sooter India, Hero MotoCorp, India Yamaha Motor & Royal Enfield, all registered a sales jump of over 20 percent compared to the month of August 2015. For Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, it has turned out to be a record-breaking month. The company has registered its highest-ever total sales, automatic scooter sales & exports. Here is the manufacturer-wise compilation of sales figure for the month of August 2016.
Honda Two Wheelers
In the month of August 2016, Honda in two-wheeler segment registered the highest ever monthly sales, register 25 percent increase in domestic sales. Honda sold 4,92,416 vehicles totally including domestic & exports compared to 3,95,196 vehicles in August 2015. In domestic market, Honda sold 4,66,342 vehicles compared to 3,73,136 vehicles in August last year. The Honda Activa played a key role in this sales figure. For the second month in a row, Honda crossed the 3-lakh mark to end at 3,36,393 vehicles compared to 2,46,763 vehicles sold in August last year, growing by 27 percent. The motorcycles sales too went up by 11 percent from 1,26,373 vehicles in August 2015 to 1,29,949 vehicles in August 2016. Also, the Honda registered all-time monthly high exports of 26,074 vehicle compared to 22,060 vehicles in August 2015. In a space of 5 month, the exports crossed the 1-lakh mark.
Commenting on their sales performance, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice president, sales and marketing, said:
“Our total sales, automatic scooter sales and exports reached an all-time high in August 2016. In just two months and before schedule, Honda has achieved 100 per cent peak production levels at its second assembly line which was recently inaugurated at the Gujarat plant.”
Royal Enfield
In the month of August 2016, the company has announced the 32 percent increase in domestic sales with 54,735 vehicles sold compared to 41,600 vehicles in August 2015. It registers 30 percent growth at 986 vehicles in exports over the corresponding period last year. From April 2016 till August 2016, Royal Enfield has sold 2, 56,582 vehicles, which is a growth of 35 percent over 1, 89,733 vehicles sold in august last year.
India Yamaha Motor
In the month of August 2016, Yamaha India registers 22 percent growth with domestic sales of 74,868 vehicles in August 2016 compared to 61,440 vehicles sold in August 2015. The domestic sales includes motorcycles sold in Nepal. The company has also said that its automatic scooter range comprising of the Yamaha Fascino, Cygnus Alpha (disc brake) and the recently launched Cygnus Ray-ZR is a popular choice among buyers. Yamaha also invested ₹66 crore this year in the second R&D centre in India.

Yamaha received fantastic response from the market for its impeccable line up of scooters like Yamaha Fascino, Cygnus Alpha (disc brake) and newly introduced Cygnus Ray-ZR.”
Hero MotoCorp
In the month of August, Hero MotoCorp has sold 6,16,424 vehicles compared to 4,80,537 vehicles in August 2015, registering a growth of 28 percent. The CMD and CEO, Pawan Munjal, said that Hero MotoCorp will launching the 15 products by the end of the current fiscal year. Also, it will be launching three new products before the end of the festive season. The first will be the all-new 150cc Hero Achiever which will launch towards the end of September 2016.
TVS Motor
In the month of August 2016, the TVS Motor sold 2,38,984 vehicles compared to 1,83,653 vehicles sold in August 2015, registering a growth of 30.1 percent. Apart from this, the scooter sales also grew by 5.1 percent with 76,572 vehicles sold in August 2016 compared to 72,865 vehicles sold in August 2015. The motorcycle sales grew by 31.2 percent to 1, 14,195 units sold in August 2016.
