Volkswagen, the German automaker has launched the company’s latest SUV – Tiguan in India at a price tag of Rs. 27.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Comfortline variant and Rs. 31.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Highline variant. The Volkswagen Tiguan comes in five colours – Tungsten Silver, Oryx White, Deep Black, Indium Grey and Atlantic Blue and the bookings already begun while the deliveries will begin from June 2017. The Volkswagen Tiguan will be manufactured in the company’s plant in Aurangabad.

Under the hood, the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan powered by 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 143PS of power at 4000rpm and develops a peak torque of 340Nm between 1750-2750rpm. The engine is mated to 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The all-new Volkswagen Tiguan comes with an intelligent AWD system. The 4Motion all-wheel drive sends power to the front wheels as well as the rear wheels. The Volkswagen Tiguan has different driving modes like On-Road, Snow and Ice, Off-Road, and Off-Road individual. The Volkswagen claims that the Tiguan has an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 17.06kmpl.
The Volkswagen Tiguan is based on the MQB platform and the styling cues have taken from the Golf and the Passat, two of the most popular Volkswagen cars in Europe. The all new-generation Volkswagen Tiguan measures 4,486mm in length, 1,839mm in width, and 1,672mm in height which is 60mm longer, 30mm wider and 33mm lower than its predecessor. In addition to this, the all new-generation Tiguan weighs 50kg lighter than its predecessor. The wheelbase of the Volkswagen Tiguan measures 2,667mm and has a ground clearance of 149mm. The Volkswagen Tiguan has a boot space of 615-litres with all the seats up, and it can be expanded to 1655-litres with the second-row fully folded.
According to the company, the Tiguan is a perfect companion for those seeking adventure – offering all-weather and all-terrain driveability, elegant exterior design, luxurious interior, tough underpinnings and a fun driving experience. The Volkswagen Tiguan features like LED headlamp with LED DRLs, fog lamps, taillights, ORVMS with integrated turn signals, two-part bumper with body-coloured elements, leather covers for the seats, three-spoke Volkswagen-signature steering wheel equipped with several in-car controls like music, telephony and more, 3-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, memory function for the driver seat and ORVMs, front centre armrest with storage space, foldable seatback tables for the second-row passengers, split folding rear seats, an electric boot lid etc.
The centre console is highlighted by an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink support.
When compared with Comfortline variant, the top-of-the-line Highline variant of the Tiguan comes with number of features like Silver roof rails (instead of black ones on the Comfortline), 18-inch alloy wheels (17-inch on the Comfortline), illuminated scuff plates, ‘Dark Grid’ inserts (instead of ‘Titanium Silver’ inserts on the Comfortline), one-touch-close tailgate and keyless entry with push-button start.
With Volkswagen Tiguan safety has taken care of as it comes with number of safety features like pedestrian protection reactive hood (hood pops forward to reduce impact on pedestrian), 6 airbags (including dual front, dual front side and dual curtain airbags), hill descent control, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), disc brakes all around, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation), 3-point seatbelts for all five passengers, headrests for all five passengers, type pressure monitor, front and rear parking sensors, front fog lamps with cornering lamps, rear for lamps and a rain sensor. The Highline variant gets added features such as reverse parking camera with display on the infotainment screen and “self-sealing” tyres.
At such a price tag, the Volkswagen Tiguan will compete with Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X.
