Piaggio, the parent company of Vespa India has launched the special edition of Vespa 125 model scooter – Vespa RED in India at a price tag of Rs. 87,000 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). The Vespa RED scooter is based on the Vespa 125 model and it is now available at all Piaggio Motoplexes as well as Vespa showrooms across India. The Vespa RED has been launched in association with RED, an organisation that creates awareness about HIV and AIDS. For your information, in International markets, the Vespa 946 RED is on sale while in India the Vespa 125 RED launched and the company has announced that every sale of the Vespa RED will generate funds for the Global Fund grants that support the fight to end AIDS in India. The company will contribute the US $50 for every unit sold in India while it contributes the US $150 for every unit sold in International markets. The actor Farhan Akhtar is the first owner of the Vespa RED and he also hands over the key to first five customers. The Vespa is the first automaker that partners with RED to fight against the deadly disease.
As the name suggests, the Vespa RED comes with an all-red treatment. Besides the bodywork including paint job & plastic panels, the alloy wheels and the seat is also finished in scarlet colour. The scooter comes with a Vespa RED chrome badging on the top left side of the front apron along with the Piaggio logo at the centre. Apart from the new styling and colour option, the basic design of the scooters remains identical when compared with the standard model.
The Vespa scooters get two engine options – 125cc and 150cc. The 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine produces 10PS of peak power at 7,500rpm and churns out 10.6Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm while the 150cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine produces 11.6Ps of peak power at 7,000 rpm and churns out 11.5Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm. The chassis, suspension and braking hardware remain same on both the models.
