Maruti Suzuki Ignis Launched In India At A Starting Price Rs. 4,59,00; Features, Specifications And More

In an event in New Delhi, Maruti Suzuki has launched the company’s latest and much awaited compact vehicle – Ignis in India at a starting price tag of Rs. 4.59 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Ignis is the third car on Nexa Series and would be the first car which comes with AMT technology in both petrol and diesel variants. The Ignis comes in four variants in both diesel and petrol fuel options – Sigma, Delta, Alpha, and Zeta. While the AMT technology comes only in Delta and Zeta variants. The carmaker started accepted e-booking at a price tag of Rs. 11,000, starting from January 1, 2017. As of now the Maruti Suzuki has received 6,000 number of booking and the car will be retailed in India via the Nexa dealerships.

Talking about exteriors, the Ignis comes with a host of features and equipment like the LED daytime running lights, projector headlamps and black 15-inch alloy wheels. In fact, the rear also comes with some key design elements like – black inserts on the bumper, a tailgate-mounted spoiler, and a rear windscreen wiper. On the inside, the Ignis is quite spacious and when it comes to the rear seat, it has a very cool, new-look interior that is packed with features. For the Zeta trim variant, the Ignis will get first in class features like a touchscreen infotainment setup with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an inbuilt navigation screen. The boot space on the Ignis is quite large considering how small is the car. Other notable features include keyless entry and go parking sensors and reversing camera, steering-mounted audio and telephony controls and a 2-DIN audio unit (mid-spec variants). The Ignis comes with a high ground clearance of 180mm.

The Ignis is built on the new generation platform which embodies Suzuki Total Effective Control Technology for occupant protection. The company, along with its suppliers, has invested over Rs. 950 crores towards development of Ignis. According to Maruti Suzuki, Ignis now comes with 98.5 percent localization and by the end of 2020, they planned to launch 15 new models in India.

The Ignis comes in two engine options – a 1.2l K-series petrol engine churns out 61kW of power at 6000 rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4200 rpm giving a mileage of 20.89 Km/L while the 1.3l DDiS diesel churns out 55.2kW of power at 4000 rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2000 rpm giving a mileage of 26.80 Km/L. Both these engines can be specified with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT, or AGS in Suzuki-speak). Interestingly, only the mid-range trims – Delta and Zeta – have the automatic option to keep the price range in check.

Talking about safety, it has been taken care of and it comes with dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) across the range. Apart from this, special attention is given to the car’s side impact.

Competitors

At such a price tag, the Maruti Ignis will compete with Mahindra KUV100 (Rs. 4.58 – 7.16 lakh), Hyundai Grand i10 (Rs. 4.91 – Rs. 6.99 lakh), Maruti Suzuki Celerio (Rs. 4.03 – 5.90 lakh), the Maruti Suzuki Swift (Rs. 4.76 – 7.44 lakh).

Commenting on the launch, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa said:

It combines unconventional design, the seamless smartphone experience with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, technological supremacy with AGS on petrol and diesel, advanced safety features as standard and personalisation options, making it unique on every parameter. IGNIS at NEXA will help us expand our presence in the premium compact segment.”
