In an event in New Delhi, Porsche India has launched the company’s latest mid-engine sports car – The Porsche 718 Cayman and Porsche 718 Boxster at a price tag of Rs. 81.63 Lakhs and Rs. 85.53 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. Both the cars will be available from Porsche dealerships across the country and already they started taking orders for these cars & deliveries has also started. The Porsche 718 Boxster is convertible and more expensive than Porsche 718 Cayman when compared. Originally, both the 718 Boxster and Cayman were unveiled by Porsche last year in the U.S..
For your information, the 718 was Porsche’s early generation race car, such as 718 RSK, which took numerous race wins in the 1950s and 1960s and it comes with flat 4-cylinder engine configuration. Both the 718 Boxster and Cayman replaces the naturally aspirated engines with smaller displacement turbocharged four-cylinder flat engines in combination with design changes and tweaked platform. Both the 718 Boxster and Cayman utilizes a custom-built track and with a driving display, the performance capabilities of both models will be shown to customers.

The Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman powered by a 2.0-litre flat 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and it produces a power of 300 hp at a maximum torque of 380Nm and equipped Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) and Sports Chrono Package. According to Porsche India, the 718 Boxster take 4.7 seconds to reach 0 to 100kmph while the maximum speed is 275kmph. When compared with Internationally, the 718 Boxster and Cayman gets a downsized turbocharged engine while the International one gets the 2.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.
The 718 Boxster and Cayman comes with the six-speed manual transmission as standard, PDK is available as an option. The four-cylinder turbo engine when combined with PDK achieves a moderate fuel consumption of 6.9 l/100 km, a 13 percent improvement on the previous generation.
Both the 718 Boxster and Cayman comes with chassis revisions with reworked suspension and both offers broader speed between ride comfort for long road trips. The wider front and side air intakes along with side skirts for improved aerodynamic performance. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PSAM) if offered as an option and that drops ground clearance by 10mm.
In terms of design, the new 718 Boxster and Cayman comes with ceramic brakes, bi-xenon headlamps with integrated four-point LED daytime running lights just like 918 Spyder. On the inside, the sports seats feature high-quality leather, sports steering wheel and newly designed dash panel that includes the latest generation of Porsche Communication Management System (PCM) with an eight-speaker music (six-speaker in the 718 Boxster), operated by touchscreen or voice control.
The side is instantly identifiable by the large air intake that feeds the mid-rear mounted motor. At the rerouted, there’s a new strip with an integrated badge that sits between designed tail lamps. The cabin is familiar but with new steering wheel that incorporates four driving modes as well as Sports Response button.

It is remarkable how Porsche engineers have evolved the 718 concepts to produce such outstanding increases in power and torque from the newly designed four-cylinder engine, whilst managing substantial improvements in efficiency. We anticipate that the introduction of both models will be well received by our customers and enthusiasts in India, especially with the Cayman now representing the entry model into Porsche.”
Also speaking during the event, Deesch Papke, CEO of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, said:
