In an event in New Delhi, Mercedes-Benz India launched the company’s latest car – Mercedes CLA-Class at a starting price of Rs. 31.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Mercedes CLA-Class is the entry-level sedan and it will compete with Audi A3. In case, if you do not know, the bookings for the CLA-Class already began over two weeks before its launch and the smallest booking amount for the CLA-Class is Rs. 2 lakh.
The Mercedes CLA-Class comes with two engine options – a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel. The 2.0-litre petrol variant is powered by four-cylinder, turbocharged engine produces power of 181 BHP (135 kW) at 5500 RPM and a maximum torque of 300 Nm between 1200 – 1400 RPM. It accelerated from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.8 seconds with a top of 235 kmph. The 2.2-litre diesel variant is powered by four-cylinder, turbocharged engine produced maximum power of 134 BHP (100kW) between 3600-4400 RPM and a maximum torque of 300 Nm between 1600-3000 RPM. On both the variant, the powerful and high torque motors couple with 7-speed DCT.
The Mercedes CLA-Class has an attractive design and the exterior follows the Mercedes latest design language, with slightly protruding grille with a big three-pointed star in the middle flanked by projector headlamps with dynamic running LEDs and a sloping coupe like roofline. The rear is better in terms of styling and tapered back houses beautifully designed tail lamps with LED inserted. The interiors are luxurious, typically Mercedes but not as attractive as the exterior of the car.
The Mercedes CLA-Class built-on the MFA (Mercedes front wheels drive architecture) platform and it shared underpinning with the A-Class, B-Claass and GLA-Class. The Mercedes CLA-Class comes in two trims – Style and Sport. The Style variant gets 16-inch wheels, driver’s side seat memory interior trim to the Sport. The Sport is the fully kitted CLA with chrome inserts in the steering wheel, panoramic roof, diamond grille, 12-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system, satellite navigation driver, passenger seat memory and 17-inch wheels. Both variants gets paddle shifters, reversing camera and bi-xenon headlamps. Mercedes will offer the diesel variant only in style trim. It has long wheelbase of 2699 mm and it offers passengers more legroom, which ensures more comfortable ride. Safety features on the CLA will consist of as many as six airbags, along with ABS, ASR and EBD.
The CLA 200 CDI Style is priced at Rs.31.50 lakhs, the CLA 200 Sport is priced at Rs. 35 lakhs and the CLA 200 CDI Sport is priced at Rs. 35.90 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
