BMW India has launched the new 2018 range of Mini Cooper S and Mini Cooper D cars in India at a starting price of ₹ 29.70 lakh and goes up to ₹ 37.10 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom India, including GST). The 2018 range of Cooper S and Cooper D available in four trim, which includes 3-door Cooper S Diesel (₹ 29.70 lakh), 3-door Cooper S Petrol (₹ 33.30 lakh), Cooper S Convertible (₹ 37.10 lakh), and 5-door Cooper Diesel (₹ 35.00 lakh) while the Cooper S can also opt-in 3-door Convertible body style, and all models come to the country as Completely Built Units (CBUs). The 2018 range of MINI Cooper will be available across all Mini dealerships in the country from June 2018 onwards.

The 2018 range of MINI Cooper available in 14 paint options, with three new colours – Emerald Grey Metallic, Starlit Blue Metallic, and Solaris Orange Metallic. In addition to this, there is also an optional Piano Black paint for the Cooper S which not only gets you only black car but also gloss black surrounds for headlights, tail lights, and a gloss black grille, instead of chrome.
Originally, the 2018 range of MINI Cooper was globally revealed in January this year. Up-front, the new 2018 range of Mini Cooper features a modified design for the circular LED headlights along with a new lens design and complete LED daytime running a light ring that doubles up as the turn/hazard indicators as well. The 2018 range of MINI Cooper comes with a new Mini logo on the bonnet, hatch, steering wheels, central instrument display, and the remote control. The optional Adaptive LED headlights that include cornering lights and Matrix lights functionality, improves visibility without glaring on-coming traffic and other road users. The tail lamps of the new Mini Cooper range now appear in a Union Jack design.
On the inside, the 2018 range of MINI Cooper gets a revised look and the upgrades include new materials & Brown Leather upholstery, sports seats, a new three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, and a piano black finish on the center console and doors enhancing its new look. There’s also an optional panorama glass roof if you want to brighten up your day. There are two option packages – MINI Yours Interior Style Piano Black Illumination and MINI Excite Pack.
The ‘MINI Yours Interior Style Piano Black Illuminated’ option adds a backlit interior surface on the passenger side of the dashboard, styled as Union Jack. The other optional Mini Excitement Pack adds multi-chrome LED interior and ambient lighting with a choice of 12 different colours. The packs also include Mini logo projection from the exterior mirror when opening and closing the door.
Furthermore, the 2018 range of MINI Cooper features a 6.5-inch colour display with Bluetooth, and phone connectivity, as standard. An optional touchscreen is also available in 6.5-inch with Mini Radio Visual Boost that serves as an aesthetic display for managing functions related to infotainment, telephone, driver and the vehicle. The selection and control are facilitated by a controller in the center console. The optional MINI Wired Package offers an 8.8-inch touchscreen with Touchpad controller, Mini Find Mate, Navigation System Professional, Mini Connected XL, telephony with wireless charging, two USB port and a 20GB internal hard drive for all media storage. Other infotainment options include Apple CarPlay along with MINI Radio Visual Boost and Mini Navigation or with Wired Package and the 360 watts Harmon Kardon Hi-Fi Speaker System with 12 speakers and an eight-channel digital amplifier.
Under the hood, the 2018 range MINI Cooper available in both petrol and diesel engines on the 3-door variant while the 5-door variant gets an only diesel engine, and the MINI Cooper Convertible available only in the petrol engine.
The 2018 MINI Cooper D powered by 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder Twin Power turbo diesel engine that churns out 114bhp of peak power and produces a maximum torque of 270Nm. The engine is mated to 6-speed automatic transmission and it reaches to 0-100 kmph in just 9.2 seconds & the top speed is 205 kmph.
The 2018 MINI 3-door Cooper S and Cooper S convertible is powered by 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder Twin Power Turbo petrol engine that churns out 192bhp of peak power and produces a maximum torque of 280Nm. The engine is mated to 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and it reaches to 0-100 kmph in just 6.7 seconds (7.1s for the convertible) & the top speed is 235kmph.
All the power trains offer three driving modes – Standard, Green, and Sport, which adjust the suspension and engine settings as per ‘driver’s’ preferences.
In terms of safety, the new MINI Cooper gets dual airbags, brake assist, three-point seat belts, stability control, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), cornering brake control, crash control system, and run-flat tyres as standard. The MINI Cooper also comes with head-up-display, cruise control and a rear-view camera as standard while Park Assist is being offered as optional. The hatchback also comes with Auto Start/Stop function, Brake Energy Recuperation, active cooling air flaps and electromechanical power steering.
The 2018 MINI Cooper will compete with Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Volvo V40, and BMW 1 Series in the luxury hatchback segment.
