Mercedes Benz India Expands R&D Capacity In India, Inaugurates Third R&D Facility in Bengaluru, Also Expands Pune Capacity

Mercedes-Benz, the German luxury automaker today expanded its R&D operations in India with inauguration of a third R&D facility in Bengaluru and expanded capacity at its Pune centre. For your information, the R&D unit of Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) Pvt. Ltd. was founded in 1996 and it support the parent company’s research, information technology & product development activities.

Thomas Merker, Vice President Body & Safety, Mercedes-Benz Cars Development and acting Chairman MBRDI said:

“The digital transformation of our company is in full swing and is affecting our entire value chain. Our India center through its talented workforce provides the necessary gilt edge raising the digital quotient of the company. MBRDI supports multiple regional hubs of Daimler in keeping the product on computer for as long as possible.”

Manu Saale, MD & CEO MBRDI, stated:

“At MBRDI, we are firm on our mission to be a Center of Excellence within Daimler for Engineering & IT. Now with 19 years behind us, we are excited about our growth and what we offer here at MBRDI. We have graduated higher up the value chain and contributing significantly in some niche areas of digital product development. With the proximity of the new office to our head office at Whitefield Palms, we ensure that functional collaboration while offering our colleagues with best in class infrastructure and facilities.”

The Bengaluru R&D facility spread across an area of 119,227 sq. feet with a capacity of 900 seating. It is located close to the head office of Mercedes-Benz Research & Development India (MBRDI), also in Whitefield. Apart from this, the satellite office in Pune at Hinjewadi expanded its capacity by 23,318 sq feet, adding another 203 seats for expansion. Currently, Bengaluru employs around 2,500 staff, while the Pune facility employs 400 and with this expansion, capacity at Pune has increased to 600 seats.
