Ather Energy has launched the company’s latest electric scooter – Ather 340 in India at a price tag of ₹ 1,09,750 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). The company claims that the Ather 340 is the most advanced scooters in India and the pricing includes a host of features like RTO tax, registration card, handling charges, insurance, smart card, and a monthly subscription of ₹ 700 + GST for the Ather One plan. The company makes sure that you have a hassle-free ownership experience when compared with owning a conventional scooter. The Ather One plan takes care of regular maintenance and the company says that the servicing & maintenance of the scooters will be free and you don’t have to pay anything for labour charges or for consumables like brake pads, breakdown assistance, public & home charging, and unlimited data services.

The 1.92kWh lithium-ion battery powers the BLDC (brushless direct current) motor that churns out a maximum power of 4.4kW (5.9PS) and produces a peak torque of 20Nm, with a claimed acceleration of 0 to 40kmph in 5.1 seconds. The Ather 340 promises a realistic range of 60km on a single charge, with a top speed of 70km. The suspension setup comprises telescopic forks on the front and a monoshock unit at the rear. The scooters run on 12-inch alloy wheels with MRF tyres and come with disc brakes on both ends. The Ather 340 features 7-inch tablet as a digital screen, it is connected to the internet full time and offers onboard navigation.

Commenting on the launch, Tarun Mehta, co-founder & CEO, said:

“We started building electric scooters four years ago at IIT Madras and we are super excited to launch not only the Ather 340 but also our higher performance flagship variant, the Ather 450. It has been designed with quick acceleration, great handling, high storage space and new-to-category features like park assist, remote diagnostics, and onboard navigation. In the last 4 years, we have not only built the scooter but an ecosystem for an electric vehicle future. Be it the suppliers and partners who were entering the EV market, the charging infrastructure that had to be set up for consumers and the engineering talent itself to build the products. Between the Ather 450 & Ather, 340 launching and AtherGrid being up and running in Bengaluru, we are really looking forward to expanding into Chennai & Pune in the coming months. These are exciting times to be a part of the industry.”
