In an event in New Delhi, Datsun India has unveiled the company’s most anticipated car – Datsun Redi-Go. It’s a global premiere and it is touted as the India’s first compact urban cross. It will be launched in India starting first week of June 2016 and will start taking deliveries starting 1st May 2016. It is based on the CMF-A platform as the Renault Kwid has and it will be a rival to Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai EON and the Renault Kwid respectively.
Commenting on the launch, Guillaume Sicard, President, Nissan India Operations, said:
“Datsun’s growth strategy in India will continue to reflect our commitment to local engineering, development and manufacturing. The Datsun redi-GO, as a tangible expression of this commitment, offers several best-in-class capabilities. It is created to bring fun, free and confident thinking to the otherwise traditional compact hatchback segment.”
Marking the reveal, Global Head of Datsun Vincent Cobeesaid:
“In a sea of lookalike hatchbacks, the Datsun redi-GO’s modern and distinctive looks help it stand out from the crowd. Aptly called YUKAN in Japanese (brave and bold), the design reflectsthe sense of individuality of the people who will buy the car: confident go-getters who know where they want to be in life.”
It’s a third car which was launched by Datsun in India, the earlier ones are Datsun GO hatchback and Datsun GO+ MPV. The Datsun Redi-GO will cater to young who are first time buyers in India. According to Datsun India, it’s an urban-cross car and comes with 185mm ground clearance, which is considered best-in-class. With the launch of Datsun Redi-GO, it will give a bunch of SUVs a run for their money.
On other side, Datsun will manufacture the car at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s facility in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, which currently manufactures the products of all three carmakers. The sole facility will cater the demands of both domestic and international market. The car will be a trend-setting urban-cross car in India and judging by all the features, it is expected that, it will be most successful car when compared with GO siblings.
Talking about the car, the Redi-GO has an attractive hatchback thanks to the aggressive string and crossover-like stance. The front-end of the car features a nice sculpted bonnet flanked by a pair of stylish sweptback headlamps with integrated turn lights and Datsun’s signature hexagonal grille with chrome bordering. The front bumper adds the aggressive touch to the fascia with its funky design, chrome slat, and also muscular character lines that are further extended towards the side profile as well.
The Datsun Redi-GO features new sporty alloy wheels, high-mounted rear windscreen, vertically-stacked tall-lamps and nice sculpted hatch.
Under the hood, it is powered by an 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine that is same as that of Renault Kwid. The engine in the Kwid produces maximum of 50bhp and develops a peak torque output of 100Nm. Initially transmission option will include only a 5 speed manual gearbox. The Datsun red-Go powertrain delivers lively dynamic performance and high fuel efficiency, while the new suspension system offers an excellent balance between handling, ride comfort and manoeuvrability, as said in a press note.
