September 2016 Four Wheeler Sales Figure

Like August 2016, the Automobile sales expanded in the month of September 2016 too. The homegrown, Maruti Suzuki India has a great month with over 31 percent growth, Honda Car India saw a drop in sales by almost 20 percent when compared to September 2015.

1. Maruti Suzuki:

The homegrown car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has announced that they sold 1,49,143 (domestic + export) vehicles in September 2016, registering a growth of 31.1 percent compared to last year September 2015. This includes 1,37,321 units sold in domestic market and 11,822 units that have been exported when compared to last year September 2015, Maruti sold a total of 1,13,759 units out of which 1,06,083 units sold in domestic & 7,676 units have been exported.

Maruti Suzuki also sold over 18,000 units in UV space and it is dominated by the Vitara Brezza. In addition to this, the introduction of the special editions of the Alto and the Swift has helped the company to register a growth of over 24 percent and 12.3 percent in mini and compact car segments.

2. Honda Car India Limited:

In the month of September 2016, Honda sold 15,439 units (domestic + export) out of which 15,034 units sold domestically and 405 units exported compared to 18,059 units sold in September 2015, registering a decline of approximately 20 percent.

Speaking on the company’s performance, Yoichiro Ueno, president and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. said that:

“Honda’s sales have been steadily growing during the past few months. Our enquiry levels have seen a significant increase since the beginning of this festival season and we are looking forward to continuing good sales momentum through Oct’16. We are offering a lot of exciting promotions on our cars to make this festive season more attractive and rewarding for our customers.“

3. Tata Motors:

In the month of September 2016, the Tata Motors sold 48,648 units registering a growth of 8 percent when compared to 45,215 units sold last year September 2015. The domestic sales of Tata motors including commercial & passenger vehicles was 42,691 units, it saw a growth of 5 percent when compared to last year September 2015. In domestic market, Tata motors passenger vehicle recorded a sale of 14,601 units, growth of 24 percent compared to 11,732 units sold in September 2015.

In the commercial vehicles segment, the Tata Motors sold 28,360 units which saw a decline of 2 percent when compared to last year September 2015. Although, the Tata Motors exported 5,687 units compared to 4,402 units sold in September 2015, registering a growth of 29 percent.

4. Mahindra And Mahindra

In the month of September, Mahindra & Mahindra sold 46,130 units compared to 42,848 units sold in September 2015, registering a growth of 8% percent. In the passenger vehicle segment (which includes UVs, Cars & Vans), Mahindra & Mahindra sold 20,537 units compared to 19,564 units sold in September, registering a growth of 5 percent.

Commenting on the auto sales performance for September 2016, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), M&M Ltd. said:

“A good and near normal spread of monsoon as well as new vehicle launches have helped the auto industry perform positively. We do hope that the upcoming festive season brings in better demand due to improved sentiments. We are happy to have achieved an 11% growth during the first six months of the current financial in spite of the various uncertainties and challenges. Our exports during the six month period have seen a good growth of 18%. We hope to continue this momentum for the remaining part of the year.”
