Hyundai Motor India has launched the company’s latest car – 2017 Hyundai Verna (Next Gen Verna) in India at an introductory price tag of Rs. 7.99 lakh to Rs. 12.61 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). These prices are applicable only for the first 20,000 customers and after that, the company will increase the price of the car. The new 2017 Hyundai Verna comes in five variants – E, EX, SX, SX+, SX (O) and it comes in seven colors out of which four colors are brand new. According to Hyundai, the new 2017 Hyundai Verna is a better car in every way – it is safer, more luxurious, powerful, and sets itself apart from the competition with segment-first features.
The all new 2017 Hyundai Verna is built on the K2 platform and it uses the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. The all new 2017 Verna borrows the design from its elder sibling – the Elantra and comes with number of features & equipment update. The biggest change you can easily see on the front, the 2017 Hyundai Verna comes with company’s signature cascading grille, swept-back headlamps with projector headlights, horizontally placed L-shaped LED DRLs and projector fog lamps. On the rear, the new 2017 Verna features another Hyundai signature – slim, slide-swept taillights with triple-lamp stop lights, and bumper gets a dual-tone treatment to reduce the visual mass at the rear.
On the inside, the cabin features a black-and-beige theme with silver inserts. The choice of upholstery is either regular cloth or leather (for the higher-spec variant). The center console features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink along with the Hyundai iBlue audio smartphone app. The top trims get 16-inch 5-spoke diamond cut alloys wheels while the lower trims get regular alloys or steel wheels. Other features are cruise control, rear AC vents, a sun-roof, segment first cooled seats, hands-free boot release, Keyless entry-and-go, and rear windshield curtain. The all new 2017 Hyundai Verna comes with an enhanced boot capacity of 480 liters. The top-of-the-line variant includes 6-speaker surround system.
The Verna’s silhouette is similar to the older car and it is more like a coupe than a three-box sedan. The new Verna is 65mm longer and 29mm wider when compared with the older car. The height of the all new 2017 Verna remains the same as before 1475mm. The all new 2017 gets a 30mm longer wheelbase when compared with an older car.
The all new 2017 Hyundai Verna comes with dual airbags and ABS (anti-lock brakes) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) as standard fitment across all trims, with the top trim getting six airbags (front, side, and curtain). Other safety features are day-night IRVM, ISOFIX child-seat anchor points, front seatbelt with pre-tensioner, rear center armrest with cupholders, tilt-adjustable steering and electronically adjustable ORVMs.
The all new 2017 Verna has ditched 1.4-litre petrol and diesel engine and comes with the more powerful 1.6-litre engine. The 1.6-litre petrol engine churns out 123PS of maximum power at 6400rom (as compared to 6,300rpm earlier) and 151Nm of peak torque at 4850rpm (as compared to 155Nm at 4200rpm earlier). The engine can be paired to either 6-speed manual transmission or all-new 6-speed automatic transmission. The ARAI-certified mileage with MT is 17.70kmpl (+0.7kmpl) and with AT is 15.92 (+0.2kmpl). The petrol automatic will be available in the EX and SX(O) variants while the diesel automatic will be offered on the EX and SX+ trims.
The 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel motor develops 128PS of maximum power at 4000rpm and 260Nm of peak torque at 1500-3000rpm (as compared to 1900-2750rpm).
