Volkswagen has launched the new generation of Passat in India at a price tag of Rs. 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) to Rs. 32.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Volkswagen Passat available at all Volkswagen showrooms and it comes in six colours. Originally, the new Volkswagen Passat was revealed globally in 2014 Paris Motor Show and the company has taken nearly three years to bring Passat to India. The company has also announced some introductory offers like Volkswagen Financial Services offering EMI options for the Passat starting at Rs. 29,990 per month. On the occasion of the Volkswagen 10th Anniversary celebration, pre-book offers include a (2+2) warranty & 4 years Road Side Assistance as complimentary. The Volkswagen Passat follows the design language of the new age cars from Volkswagen and it’s the company’s second major launch this year after Volkswagen Tiguan SUV. At such a price tag, the new generation Passat will compete with Honda Accord Hybrid, Toyota Camry, Skoda Superb.
The new generation Passat is based on the MQB platform same as that of Tiguan and it is the first sedan from the Volkswagen group that implements new transverse matrix for engine, transmission and chassis configuration. The new generation Passat will be available only in two variants and it shares its underpinnings with the Skoda Superb. The local assembly of the car has already begun in India.
The new generation Passat follows the company’s new design language and it is much sleeker & muscular when compared with previous generations. The new generation Passat gets longer wheelbase, lower body, characterised horizontal lines, wide triple-slat chrome grill, single-slat chrome air dam, LED dual-barrel headlamps with signature LED DRLs, 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, and Dynamic Light Assist features. The new generation Passat is 12mm wider and 14mm lower when compared to previous models. The new generation Passat gets 79mm longer wheelbase and the boot capacity has been increased by 26 litres to 586 litres. According to the company, they managed to shave off 70kg of weight when compared to the earlier generations.
The new Passat comes with brushed aluminium lip on the front that continues onto the side and forms a large band along the bottom edge of the doors. On the rear side, the LED taillights change their graphics from horizontal to vertical when the brakes are applied.
Like the previous generation of Passat, the new generation Passat also gets Volkswagen’s Park Assist technology for hands-free parking. The system steers the car into the parking lot while the driver controls the throttle and brake.
Talking about interiors, the new generation Volkswagen Passat gets the neat & simple design and uses high-quality materials all around. The new generation Volkswagen Passat comes with the 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, A/C vents that stretch from side-to-side on the dashboard, touchscreen infotainment system on the centre console with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, three-zone climate control system, large panoramic sunroof, and Nappa leather seats. In addition to this, the new generation Passat comes with Head-Up Display Unit (HUD), new Park Assist, Dynamic Chassis Control reverse camera with a 360-degree view, Hill Start Assist, Auto Hold, Tyre pressure motor, 9 airbags, ESP, and ABS as standard.
Under the hood, the new generation Volkswagen powered by 2.0-litre TDI 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that produces 177PS of maximum power and churns out 350NM of peak torque. The engine is mated to 6-speed DSG automatic transmission, and the ARAI-certified mileage is 17.42kmpl.
