Porsche has launched the third generation of its flagship SUV Cayenne in India at a starting price tag of ₹ 1.19 Crore. The third generation 2018 Porsche Cayenne will be offered as Cayenne, Cayenne E-Hybrid, and Cayenne Turbo. The Porsche Cayenne E-hybrid has priced at ₹ 1.58 crore while the Cayenne Turbo is available at ₹ 1.92 crores (all prices are ex-showroom, Pan-India). The bookings for the third generation Cayenne already started at the beginning of this year while the bookings for the Turbo variant just started in September 2018 and the first batch of cars has already been sold out. The 2018 Porsche Cayenne SUV will compete with Range Rover twins – the Sport and the Velar and Lamborghini Urus.
Visually, the 2018 Cayenne SUV gets a host of upgrades over its predecessor and it has evolved, get a sharper look while retaining the overall appearance. The 2018 Cayenne SUV comes with revised chassis, all-LED Matrix Beam headlights, Porsche Dynamic Light System (PLDS), and for the first time, the 2018 Cayenne is available with rear-axle steering and mixed-size tyres derived from the 911, which improve agility, stability and safety. The air intake and the grille have all grown in size, making the Cayenne look visually wider and it is 63mm longer, 45mm wider and 9mm shorter than its predecessor. The wheelbase is 2895mm which is same as that of predecessor and the boot space is 770-litres. The 2018 Porsche Cayenne also features the Porsche Traction Management system which works with the all-wheel-drive system to distribute power to each of the axles according to the terrain and the selected mode – Onroad, Mud, Gravel, Sand and Rocks. On the rear side, the 2018 Cayenne gets a Panamera-like connected tail lamp setup.
Apart from outside, the 2018 Cayenne gets a big makeover on the inside too. It comes with features like new display and control concept from Porsche that uses a 12.3-inch high definition touchscreen infotainment system shared with the Panamera, a 360-degree camera and a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster that replicates Porsche’s classic 5-pod analogue cluster. In addition to this, the plethora of buttons on the floor console have been replaced by touch-sensitive buttons and everything you touch and feel is bespoke. Everything is bathed in leather and the instrument console gets a central analogue tachometer taking prominence.
The 2018 Cayenne SUV is based on MLB Platform, the same platform used by Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus and Audi Q7. The standard 2018 Porsche Cayenne gets a 3.0-litre six-cylinder single-turbo petrol engine that churns out maximum power of 340PS and produces a peak torque of 450Nm and claims 0-100kmph in 6.2 seconds (5.9 seconds with the optional Sports Chrono Package), with a top speed of 245kmph. The engine is mated to 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission.
The 2018 Cayenne SUV will be offered in a range of engine options including V6 and V8. The 2018 Porsche Cayenne S gets a twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine that churns out maximum power of 440PS and produces a peak torque of 550Nm, claims 0-100kmph in 5.2 seconds. The engine is mated to 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission.
The 2018 Cayenne Turbo is powered by a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine that churns out maximum power of 549PS of peak power and produces a peak torque of 770Nm and claims to hit 0-100kmph in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 286kmph. The engine is mated to 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission.
The 2018 Cayenne SUV E-Hybrid variant use the 3.0-litre V6 engine which coupled with the electric motor churns out a combined power of 468PS and produces a peak torque of 700Nm, claims a 0-100kmph in 5 seconds. With a fully charged battery, it can drive up to 44 kilometers with a top speed of 135 km/h in all-electric mode.
The 2018 Cayenne SUV comes with a host of active and passive safety systems and it includes Lane Changing Assist, lane keeping assist with traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist, park assist, Warn and Brake Assist with predicitve pedistrian protection, adaptive cruise control and more.
